Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL) are more powerful than fluorescent tubes. Therefor they are suited for ambitioned growers.

Most of them have got an E40 base (these are bigger than the domestic-use bulb sockets.

The installation of the CFLs is like the one of the fluorescent tubes. The distance to the leaf apexes is to be observed. The apexes should not be exposed to more than 30 degrees centigrade. Otherwise most plants stop growing.

It is essential to handle the CFLs with care because they are quite fragile.
